Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791) was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical period. He was a child prodigy, which means he was exceptionally talented at a very young age. By the time he was five, he was already playing the piano and composing music. Mozart’s music was of a Classical style, and he composed in many different forms: opera, chamber music, symphony and solo concertos. These forms were not new, but Mozart added a level of emotion and technical brilliance which stood him above other composers.

Died: 1953
Nationality: American
As an African-American woman, Florence Price combined the traditions of classical music with the sound of spirituals and West African rhythms and dance from her own culture.
In 1933 she overcame prejudice to become the first black female composer to have her work performed by a major orchestra.

The story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King was transformed into a magical ballet in 1892 – and is now a Christmas favourite.
